Over the last couple of months, we have noticed that the standing desks, as well as other ergonomic products, have become increasingly popular in Singapore as more individuals and organisations are more aware of the importance of ergonomic and are looking to improve their workplace ergonomics. In the year 2018, we were given the opportunity to demonstrate our standing desks to the employees of a few companies.
During our demonstration there, our staff showed their employees on the usage of the standing desk and how the standing desk helps in reducing the risk of developing office-related injuries while increasing their work productivity. As most employees in Singapore spent at least 8 hours a day sitting in the office, health problems such as back pain, obesity, higher risk of heart diseases may develop in the long term.
The most common injuries occurred in the workplace are neck and back injuries and are often caused by prolonged sitting using the laptop or computer without much physical movement. Slouching, doing repetitive motions such as typing as well as fatigue can add on to these injuries or even worsen it. These often can be prevented by employing an ergonomically correct work environment such as using a sit stand desk converter, monitor arm or laptop stand. Injuries can be reduced or limited by avoiding extended static posture (not moving for long periods of time) and avoiding repetitive movements. Hence practising good ergonomics in the workplace is extremely important.
Standing desks allows them to sit and work for a few hours and then switch to a standing position to continue working and this will have a positive effect on their health as opposed to sitting for a long period of time. It will also improve the mood and energy levels among employees and increase their work productivity. Overall, It was a wonderful experience for us to share this knowledge with others and encourages them to work ergonomically.
